*What is Chorotega?

Chorotega \Cho-ro-'te-ga\ n: name of native peoples who inhabited Nicaragua when the Spaniards came to the New Continent.

My name is René de Jesús Sandino Monterrey. I was born in Managua, Nicaragua, on Friday April 17, 1964, and though no Chorotegas exist today, I have a Chorotegan heart and soul. I live on Planet Earth, our common and only home. I invite you to join me in a continuous effort to protect our fragile environment.

Pablo Antonio Cuadra, a famous Nicaraguan poet and writer, in his book El Nicaragüense (The Nicaraguan), talking about the indio we have inside, states that the Chorotegas were a people of strong cultural originality and creative power and that the Chorotegas had a growing and evident domain in art and culture.

That is why I aspire to become a Renaissance Chorotega, and constantly emulate the creative, peaceful and democratic nature of our ancestors. My modest scientific, literary and artistic production is nothing but a speck in the universe. However, I believe that with the passing time, my contribution to the development of Information Studies and Technologies plus my artistic and philosophical attempts will help building a better world.

We should promote:

  1. Education for everybody;
  2. technological advances;
  3. the exchange of ideas;
  4. the free enterprise;
  5. freedom of speech;
  6. moral and civic principles; and
  7. a more united world.

And eliminate:

  1. Imaginary borders;
  2. hate;
  3. war;
  4. political blindness; and
  5. poverty.
